DesiPundit Blegging

Use the email id desipundit [at] gmail [dot] com (at PayPal) to donate
if the above button doesn’t work

Update: Number of people that have sent donations: 15; Money collected: $277.93.
This will remain sticky for one more day; but you can access the button on the sidebar.

Don’t be shocked; we aren’t making DesiPundit a paid blog. We are asking for voluntary donations. If you decide not to donate, please move down and sample our blog links for the day. If you wish to, then click on the PayPal Donate button above and you’ll be directed to a secure transaction site. Rest is easy. Click below for details:

We at DesiPundit, are continuously trying to popularize the Indian blogosphere and sometimes these efforts need resources other than blogging skills. We had to sport a ugly-looking Bandwidth Exceeded notice for more than 12 hours at the height of the IIPM blog wars. We moved quickly to an alternative server with lots of space and bandwidth. Of course, this didn’t come free. DesiPundit is and will always remain free but we appreciate little tips occasionally. Even if you do not donate, you can still enjoy DesiPundit like always (yup, we are aware of the free-rider problem but like to overlook it). If you choose to donate, we’ll remember you during linking your blog. Nah! We’re just kidding. Apart from a heartfelt thank-you and a snazzy looking button (see below), you will have the satisfaction of furthering the Desi blogosphere’s cause. We will also maintain a list of DesiPundit Patrons, accessible from our main page.

So what do we do if we get a great response and our tiny coffers overflow? Good question. We have exciting plans for DesiPundit in the coming months. Obviously, everything will be oriented to popularizing Indian blogs. We also plan to expand DesiPundit’s role and scope of activities. We’ll keep you updated. After deducting for housekeeping expenses, the surplus will be donated to suitable charities. Rest assured the DesiPundit team will not benefit financially from this site or its activities. We are not in this for the money. If need be, we’ll present specifics of our campaign drive.

Whether you donate or not, we have buttons for you that you can sport on your blog. Simply cut-paste the code (as applicable) below:

Copy the code below and add it to your webpage

 (if you choose to donate)

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.desipundit.com" title="Best of the Indian Blogosphere" ><img alt="DesiPundit" src="http://www.desipundit.com/wp-images/desipundit_patron.jpg" > </a>

Copy the code below and add it to your webpage

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.desipundit.com" title="Best of the Indian Blogosphere" ><img alt="DesiPundit" src="http://www.desipundit.com/wp-images/desipundit_button.jpg" > </a>

Thanks!

The button is not working. U got the code wrong. Can u also put the email address so its easy to make the contribution directly.

Also a target amount and a status of how much is left would be cool !!

Arzan,

Tried changing the code but guess Paypal is not directing it well enough. Anyways, I have added the email id so hopefully that should work.

Got your donation! Thanks! :)

Target amount? I don’t want to specify that in case we fail to meet that :) But I’ll post on how much we collect.

Guys
Keep up the good work. I will contribute to this fine fine effort.

More begging on the earthquake situation please. We arent doing enough, and 2 million are at the risk of freezing to death.

If so much time and effort was spent on the IIPM fiasco, surely we can afford to spend a small percentage of our time for these survivors.

DP, looking for you guys to lead in this ongoing humongous effort.

I find it amusing that on one side you are facing bandwidth issues and on the other you are allowing everyone to link to an image that is hosted on *your* server!

Srijith,

Bandwidth issues are a thing of the past. We moved to a much roomier hosting server and of course, you would know it that it doesn’t come free. So, hosting the lil’ image on our server is just something to give back to the readers who choose to donate (also something for those who don’t know HTML). People, of course, are welcome to download the image and host it on their sites.

I am surprised you have not considered Adsense so far. We at Bixee are also operating a free service and we have been able to offset all our expenses with just Adsense. I cannot tell you how much we make according to the TOS, but I am fairly certain that properly-tuned Adsense would beat voluntary donations in net output. If you have not seen that, pl email me and I can offer more detailed notes.

Keep up the good work boys and girls, am happy to contribute towards bandwidth costs. Though I think Adsense should be tried for future use and also consider reducing the number of images you serve to save bandwidth.

Other than that, you guys have done well to open my eyes to the Indian blogosphere from our tiny little island in the UK.
(ps, I used my asiansinmedia.org email).

It’s REALLY nice to have an ad-free site, consider it only if you’re really in dire straits-that’s my take. Have left a tiny donation as have just left my job, but hope to contribute more over the following months. Keep up the good work!

Guys,

I hope you all help me out in this cause and forward this email to all your friends. Ofcourse, donations too, however small, are most appreciated.

Thanks
