Dear Friends,
The only organisation which can take action in India against IIPM is the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India. The State Directorates of Collegiate Education can take action in the states. It is perfectly illegal to offer degrees to persons in india. Someone can urge the UGC to add the name of IIPM to the list of fake universities in its website. Why is no one speaking about ICFAI university which is also not recognised in India by the UGC setting up colleges in each district and town in India and offering unrecognised degrees and still cheating gulliable people from India.

The link Mridula provided above does mention that: ‘However, “Private partyâ€? can be included in the PIL as “Respondentâ€?, after making concerned state authority, a party.’

Is there any state authority that is responsible for taking action against entities releasing false/misleading ads? If so, I think a PIL can be filed against this authority and IIPM. Could someone conversant with the law clarify on this?

There is even a more fundamental difference, there are already three cases filed against Sony and none against IIPM. Sometime back I was looking at how to file a PIL and found this information that you cannot file a PIL against a private corporation! Have a look.

There is one basic differenc between Sony and IIPM scenario. The intial IIPM story that started it all still appeard in a print magazine (JAM) and not a website. Sure, the fallout and the rest of the scene was enacted on the blogosphere but the seed was an article in a non-blog media.
