The commute

my favourite writer, Radhika is back.
taking us through the London tube and Bombay trains back and forth, she shows how one’s mind toggles between lifes. she even forgets to remember that the trains in mumbai do not have doors, and gets reminded of, and continues. Two different life styles brought together by that commutting time, still her mumbai commute takes over her and she can see that she is not standing alone only when the green man is on.
just then a group of english school kids rush in even while the doors close. their uniforms neatly pressed, black stockings for their legs. i’m looking for mud stains, or ink leaking from fountain-pens loose in their pockets. one of them pops a pink chewing gum.
just after i’ve swiped my card to enter the gates, i stop to look behind me. the hawkers look up from their carts and wink.
Radhika is back.
