I atrongly believe that sting operations play a vital role in preserving the freedom and even in enhancing the efficiency of every form of media, be it television, radio or newspapers. Curbing sting operations altogether is no solution. The very reason for the emergence, prevalance and growing prospects of the media in today’s society is to preserve the democracy of the nation by keeping the masses well-informed about the true happenings in the country, especially those events and decisions that take place behind close doors and are shrouded in secrecy. While it may seem ’safe’ and ‘ethical’ to follow traditional and conventional forms of journalism, our corrupt politicians keep devising new and even more tactful ways to deceive us. So if the media witholds sting operations, how are we, the commoners, going to be made aware about the corruption we are falling prey to? Today sting operations are banned and tomorrow………….freedom of speech, freedom of thought? So I strongly believe that the ethical conduct of sting operations is indispensable in today’s world, where our leaders mostly comprise of cons and criminals. However, effective action must be taken against media houses indulging in vouyerism and sensationalism, so as to preserve the honour and integrity of the media.
