Tragedy of the liberals

The more choices people have, the more will be the uncertainty in individual transactions. This leads to a paradox that a liberal society breeds conservatism (and fanaticism in extreme cases). In making the leap from a lack of choices to more choices, we seem to be willingly wanting to come back to a configuration having a paucity of choices!
