Indian Muslims on the attitude of the state in Gujarat
The section of lumpened middle-class Hindu hates Muslims that is a well-known fact so all this would boost the morale of the Pride Gujarati and thus the government and the BJP would get mileage. The message is clear ‘It is Gujarat, Hindu state and we will do whatever we want’. But what one expects from this state where people are so communalised. Where this hate will take the Gujarat and the Gujaratis?

From outside, the developments in Gujarat seem a dark stain on India’s otherwise admirable record of coexistence in an overwhelmingly diverse country.
On another note, you had written earlier about Surayanarayana’s case. It seems to have spun out of control now as other twists have been exposed. I posted something recently on this.

As another commentator on that blog pointed out, the Indian Muslims blog suffers from a persecution complex.
To insinuate that all Gujaratis are communal is to exhibit the same kind of prejudice and intolerance that leads to such incidents. To say such a thing is to disregard the efforts of countless Hindu Gujaratis who vehemently condemned riots in the state and provided relief to victims.
And the firing incident is just a demonstration of how trigger happy a lot of Indian police tend to be. Trust me, if police is hell bent on violence, it matters little if the protesters are Hindu or Muslim.
