The Meaning of Peace
As Israel intensifies its attacks in Lebanon, it pays to wonder if the word “peace” has any meaning at all? Add this to many recent events, the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, for example, and one is tempted that to think that the world is only a few steps away from self-destruction.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “An eye for an eye would only end up making the whole world blind.” Would the old man have approved of all this? Or is war the only solution? Has peace lost its meaning and value? Are we on the road to perdition?

Mr.Vijay
With due respects to your comments…i would like to say that ..
Peace has lost its meanin long time back ..if u talk about the ‘93 blasts.or even the WTC tragedy of 9/11.Israel and Lebanon are on a war against each other due to death of 2 civilians …In Mumbai more than 200 civilians were killed ….What can I say terrorism has indeed raised it ugly hood

I don’t really agree with MK Gandhi’s philosophy of extreme pacifism either but at the same time, the path of violence and constant retaliation hasn’t solved the Israel-Palestinian issue either. Both sides have to tire of fighting each other to really want to sit down at the negotiating table to arrive at a reasonable compromise.

meaning of peace has surely changed. Recently, the bush administration declared that the war on terrorism is over, and that we are all now safe. Yippee!! yay for peace!

Sonia, when exactly did any one declare the war on terrorism was over? Is it the pills you forgot taking or is it the easy security of groupthink where you can get away with anything as long as it is against Bush?
