As a long time reader of desipundit, I had come to believe that it really does offer the best of Indian blogosphere.
But do you really think this link is one of the best of Indian blogosphere?
Let me clarify that I’m neither defending Kiruba, nor making a case against Chenthil.
So Kiruba writes whatever he wants to on his blog, Chenthil says he doesn’t consider it good enough to be considered numero uno on his (her. this was the first time I visited the blog, so I don’t know. My apologies).
Is this ‘urban legend’ so serious that desipundit HAD to spread the word so more people don’t start thinking that Kiruba is no. 1?
I love the links desipundit offers with commentaries on travel, films, anecdotes, politics. but this? Seriously, why was this considered one best of Indian blogosphere?

Asmita,

Since I don’t decide what posts each contributor links to, I’ll let Kaps respond to your comment.

My personal opinion is voiced as a comment on Chentil’s post.

Asmita,
Thanks for your feedback. As Chenthil didn’t indulge in personal vendetta / mud-slinging, I felt that this debate could be interesting to a section of the DP readers. A link doesn’t mean that DP endorses the views of the author.

I do think Chenthil’s post had some spite in it even if it didn’t seem vendetta. If I were in your shoes, Kaps, I wouldn’t have linked to it. But then, I am not in your shoes.

“We link to blog posts that catch our fancy and those that we believe deserve a wider audience” In which case, Kaps I guess you wanted to take a digg on Kiruba too…

Remove this link.

The attack on Kiruba was uncalled for and rather vicious. I dont know the man, but he has never thumped his chest about being the #1 blogger.

Look at most of the American and British blogs, they can be considered self promotion too (Scoble, Guy Kawasaki, Raymond Chen, Osterman, Spolsky). There is *nothing* wrong with that.

In fact, I think Kirubas blog is actually very relevant and is connected with Chennai and the society around him. This is not to mention his enthusiasm for organizing get togethers.

Some respect for the man please, Jeez!

I am not against mudslinging either, the problem is Chenthils mudsling is not very interesting to read - and therefore not worthy of Desipundit.

The final decision is up to you.

kiruba’s blog is called as india’s number 1 blog by main stream media. it is a bad advertisement for rest of us. it is good that chenthil busted the myth.

2 people had guts here.

1. one called the emperor naked
2. the other carried the news of such a calling.

this seprates these 2 from the rest of us.

if desi pundit ever wishes to promote free speech, democracy etc. it shld not gag kaps or discourage him.

otherwise it wont be a popular site but just a pvt club association.

btw kiruba wont respond. he has too many recruiters company big shots looking at his blog. right now he is praying the whole thing will pass by

Hawkeye: Please read the post above before jumping on the bash-Kiruba bandwagon. Kiruba has indeed replied that silly post, on his own blog, with maturity and grace. H even welcomes scathing comments from anonymous bloggers like you :) ANd Patrix has updated the post above.

“if desi pundit ever wishes to promote free speech, democracy etc. it shld not gag kaps or discourage him.”

Who said Kaps should be censored or gagged? See Patrix’s comment above. As for “discouraging” Kaps, I’m sure he can take criticism as much as Kiruba can! But by your own yardstick, isn’t it against the interests of “free speech, democracy, etc.” to “discourage” Kiruba?

lol!

I support Kaps here. We’ve seen plenty of crap on desipundit, and this is equally relevant crap.

shivam,

i don’t know who you are - but since you responded to my comment -

‘gag’ and ‘critisism’ are 2 different words. your comment suggested that you did not realize the difference. ‘doscourage’ is completely something else. you have basically merged these three words by calling it the same.

The ‘update’ by patrix happened after my comment.

the point is - chenthil did not indluge in name calling. i thought the critisism was wellfounded and constructive. the fact that you wouldn’t have linked him is moot.

Who is this imposter Shivam and what has he done with Albert Krishna Ali?

Anyways, I have done some mudslinging on my own, because not only am i jealous of Kiruba, I’m also jealous of his erudite commentors. Will someone feed my inner troll?
