Manish at Ultrabrown has breaking news that Kiran Desai has won the Booker for her book, The Inheritance of Loss. Expect some lively discussion at the Mutiny.
Well, who’d have thought it? Not the bookies, clearly – they rated her as a 5-1 outsider. But the judges disagreed, and awarded this year’s prize to Kiran Desai.
The Guardian sounds skeptical of the choice.

Patrix – I think you mistyped, you meant “her” not “his” above.

There was actually a late surge of bets on Desai, and she became 2nd favored after Sarah Waters:

Patrix,
Your Guardian link hardly seems to prove your point about it being sceptical. It just makes the announcement and asks for readers comments:after all Desai was an outsider.

Confused, I noticed a hint of skepticism in their tone especially in the last paragraph.
