Review: Hitchhiker

Vivek reviews Vinod George Joseph’s novel Hitchhiker:

If I were to use just one word to describe Ebenezer [the novel's protagonist], it would be ‘naïve’. He is like Forrest Gump, except that everything comes undone in his case. To be fair, life did not give him a fair deal and he had no control over many of the situations in his life. But there are times when you want to scream at him to ‘Get Real’.

That, in my opinion, is a measure of novel’s success. Most readers would perhaps find it difficult to identify with Ebenezer (I certainly did), but the novel engages your attention and makes you empathize with him. He is not to be pitied though, for you cannot pity a character so full of hope and plans.
