Rural doctors

Musafir is critical of the Indian Government’s scheme for all new MBBS graduates to serve in a rural area for one year as a precondition for being granted permanent registration.

It’s the perfect socialist scheme. Government abdicates responsibility, puts clueless, young people on the spot by entrusting nation-building in their inexperienced hands and watches the fun while people squirm in their seats. It’s a scam because our villages deserve better. It’s a scam because our medical graduates deserve better than being asked to sweat their asses off, trying to clean up the Government’s mess.

Is Israel being socialist in asking its citizens to serve in the military for two years? Many countries have similar ideas.

India has a geat penchant for socialist schemes. But the main theme of it is :

1. announce a grand programme.
2. appropriate a lot of money for it
3. make sure many levels of govt and multiple departments are involved.
4. give every one a cut and
5. report how successful the programme has been, by implementing in select villages.

to think India is socialist is perhaps flawed (a little bit). The idea has always been (after Nehru) that govt will be used to control power and make sure to get some money on the side. else its not a scheme our babus would want.
