Marketing India

Seth Godin complains about the Indian consulate and the process of getting a visa. He also has some helpful suggestions. [Hat tip: Navin]

The more important issue is this: this is a business. They take in more than $20,000 a day in fees, but even more important, the way they market themselves has a direct and important impact on travel decisions. No visa, no trip. Big hassle, no trip. Given that every single person traveling to this vast country must deal with the consulate first, think of the leverage… Just a small influence on the quantity or quality of travel to India would be huge.

He’s not kidding. India has some of the best properties around the world and they treat it like most people wouldnt treat a hut. Its ironic that Indian outsourcing got its big push with customer service coz going by our embassies, we don’t have any.

Interesting blog from Seth… Well, I guess there are two sides of the coin. The land of honey-and-milk, America too restricts entry with its interesting Visa provisions and loopholes…
