The Taj Mahal Experience
On 7.7.07, a brand new set of Seven Wonders of the World is going to be selected out of 21 worthies. The Sydney Opera House, Petra, the Pyramid at Chichen Itza are some of the icons shortlisted, apart from the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty etc. Not many Indians have heard of this because, as usual, our insipid government hasn’t jumped at the chance to promote this great icon, the one thing that put India on a world traveller’s map. Other countries are vying with one another to get the coveted ‘Wonder of the World’ tag for their treasure. Why isn’t our Tourism industry lifting a finger? As always, it is up to us, the aam junta, to show to the world what a treasure we have in the Taj Mahal.
DesiGirl shares memories of the Taj Mahal and encourages fellow bloggers to vote for the Taj.
Update: The title has been changed since the vote-for-Taj was said to be a chain email.

Sorry, the comment was written in a hurry. What I meant was the scheme and the company promoting this so-called 7 wonders of the world is a total fraud which has no connections with the United Nations or any other official body. The only reason why our tv channels are promoting this is because of the money they get through sms polls. In fact, the company has a 60:40 revenue sharing agreement with all the tv channels.

The New Seven Wonders campaign was a media-driven stupid exercise

[...] Finally, I can look forward to opening emails from long-forgotten friends without having to fear that chain-letter craziness. The latest craziness was to vote for the new seven wonders of the world. A website, http://www.new7wonders.com (sorry, no link; feel free to type it out yourself or cut-paste) popped up out of nowhere and in spite of having no affiliation with UNESCO or any reputed historic preservation authority claimed to rework the seven wonders list. The media all across the world lapped it all up willingly with the Indian media not too far behind. I was surprised to see even otherwise sensible bloggers fall in this trap. To be fair, even Ash fell into the trap at DesiPundit. [...]
