“Talent” shows bring India’s regionalism to the fore

Sachiniti feels that talent hunt shows only promote mediocrity:

What hurts one most is this compulsion for likability of a talent contestant on factors least to do with his talent. Are we as a nation such poor judges of genius when we see one? Or is that we are so fed on mediocrity that we by pass real talent as we have lost the capacity to imbibe its divine gift? Surprising that we have produced Tansen and Ghalib.. but yes while the former lived a regal life since the King Akbar was a connoisseur, Ghalib died a pauper.. Will genius always die unsung.. shame on us !!

I mainly blame the audience who would rather vote for someone from their city, their state, their region than support real talent!

It’s no different than any other Indian election – it’s all about Hum Log, who you are and where you’re from, not about what you stand for or what you do. Therefore, it is not a singing competition but tribal warfare. (or at the very least, a popularity contest.)
