I have always wondered why they called them “runways”. Planes taxi, they don’t run, right? But now I know. Anita writes about running on the new Bangalore Airport runway.

Planes ‘taxi’ up to the runway and then ‘run’ on the runway, in order to attain speed that can create a sufficient amount of a force that is termed as Lift, which acts against the force of Gravity and enables the aircraft to take-off.

You are right! I am more used to having planes sit at the gate for long hours and stand in queues for longer hours (more standing, less taxiing).
I forget that planes can run, let alone fly
