Jodhaa Akbar review

Baradwaj reviews Jodhaa Akbar.

Hrithik occupies screen space with such silent poise and regal bearing, it’s hard to believe this is the same actor with the loosest limbs in Bollywood. And while Aishwarya’s beauty is no breaking news – in fact, that’s the only explanation for the longevity of her career – she’s so luminous from certain angles, it’s as if the cinematographer lit her from within. When I first saw these two together, my concerns about the film – based on rumours that it’s too long, too this, too that! – simply melted away.

Meetu concurs but finds the movie to be painfully long.

In a 5-star scale, Jodhaa Akbar certainly deserves 3, but that would translate to “Wait for DVD release” here. And what a waste it would be to have you do that with such a beautifully shot movie. However, after spending half of the 200+ minutes on mostly mundane romance and the other half on interesting yet dissatisfying display of politics, I cannot tell you it is a must watch. Either catch it in theaters or skip it completely.

As a nod to the Bawarchikhana scene in the film, I’d like to describe the film in purely culinary terms - cheesy, corny and hammed to death.
Yet, I recommend that you go see the film if *only* for the much-talked-about(and most deservedly so)chemistry between Hrithik and Aishwarya. I suggest that all their scenes be put together in the form of a “How to Make the Screen Sizzle without Halfnaked Morons and Lewd Pelvic Thrusts” manual for all our other Indian filmmakers.

Jodhaa Akbar has been so talked about, and has been much awaited. But with all the controversy clouding it, it is really difficult to say if it will take off. I read a piece on Helloji, and would like to share the link with you.

Certainly, if Jodhaa Akbar does not do well at the box office- we may not see period movies on the silver screen for a while.

BornArchitect, we would prefer if you send us links to your posts through our tip-off line coz cut-pasting links (in comments) tends to put your comments in the spam queue.

I am sorry Patrix, I was not aware of that. Since I read the two articles at the same time- one on Desi Pundit and other on Helloji, I was too excited to share it with you!
I will be careful next time. Thanks,
