Get Out Women!

Desi Train on nine kind of women guys should walk away from,

If she can’t cook, walk away. Right now. Walk away. A woman who can’t feed her man, is outright selfish, uncaring and too inwardly focussed on herself than her partner. Walk away. Don’t even question this. Cause I could as many others will, write volumes on this. If you return home after a hard day’s work and your woman can’t feed you (whether or not she works), she can’t be the woman of the house. If she wants you to cook (and I’ve been asked in the past by women, during my desi online matrimony days) then tell her you will if she can wear the pants in the house, make money as much as you do and you can sit at home or do a part time job and work the kitchen. If not, forget it. Walk away. Right now.

What’s wrong with not being able to cook, bhai? Cooking sucks, eating rocks! (and yeah it’s Friday night, cheers!)

Update: Chandni on why she enjoys cooking after marriage,

And I now know that I am thoroughly enjoying this cooking business. It relaxes me. I put on Worldspace and happily spend my time in the kitchen after I get back from work and its a lot of fun! But if the scenario was different, like my friend’s, for example, if I “had to” cook without fail, or feed a certain number of people on a daily basis, I think i’d be the first to run out and get a cook!

And this was linked to because…?

It’s mysogynist drivel and the guy can’t seem to find synonyms for GET OUT.

Surely DP can find better blogs out there?

Agree with Space Bar.

In juxtaposition with the ‘poll’ you’re currently running I have to say that leaving out posts like this one is probably the single most positive step you can take to improving quality on DP. I suspect it’s not about newbies vs. tried and tested, it’s about resisting the temptation to link to posts that are so execrable that they seem to demand dissent. Posts like this one, or the inane one about the player auction being like prostitution, for instance. Posts that, I suspect, you’re basically linking to to provoke a reaction. It’s a good idea in theory - promote discussion, etc. - but there’s just too much trash out there and the last thing one needs is the aggravation of having it brought to one’s notice via DP.

The poll you want to run, I think, is one that asks your readers: Do you want DP to link to posts that the contributors think are so outrageously bad they deserve to be commented on? Speaking strictly for me, the answer to that question is no.

Falstaff,

Fair enough. I was hoping someone (You?) would give this dude a little kick up his backside…

Falstaff,

So we shouldn’t link to posts that we don’t agree with? I agree that there are plenty of execrable posts out there that would keep people busy for days in trying to respond. But shouldn’t we offer such posts up for discussion (as long as English and grammar is decent enough)? Probably the author and his closed coterie might realize there are contrary opinions out there. Isn’t the blogosphere supposed to do that?

I am not arguing for linking such posts every day in order to keep the pot boiling but banning them outright without a clear criteria of what’s a bad post might just make DesiPundit a boring place.

Patrix,

It’s not about whether you agree with them or not. It’s about whether they have any merit. This one doesn’t. It’s not remotely intelligent, well-argued, well-written or funny. “Drivel” is the word Space Bar used and she got it absolutely right.

Besides, you’re the one who claims to want to know what people want or don’t want from DP. I’m telling you what I suspect people don’t want. It’s not a normative statement about what you should or shouldn’t link to - it’s a descriptive claim: links like these are the reason, I suspect, people are complaining about the deteriorating quality of DP.

DP is doing an awesome job with these types of posts. The last thing we want is the same old serious kind of blogs. Develop a funny bone people. Keep up the good work. I loved the blog!!!

Falstaff,

Agreed. Always glad to hear what readers like and don’t like but I was simply pointing out to the futility of laying out a policy for contributors on what to link and what not to. The more contributors we have, the varied will be their subjective tastes on the quality of the posts. I just hope the feedback is more frequent not only on the bad links but also on the good ones so we have an idea of what people want.

@Sudha - PUA is a Pick Up Artist - a man who trolls bars or any gathering to pickup, you guessed it, women. An artist, indeed!

I second falstaff…this post on desi train is not fuuny, well written or anything that could even remotely make it linkablae or even readable!!

On the poll business, i’d suggest relooking at the database that the pundits use to find linkworthy posts. May be there are lot of blogs, might even have been around for ages, and one is unaware of!

As readers and supporters of DP, we should be doing our bit by actively sending tip offs :D
