Taking an Interest

For one, if you are in another country, then I think you should take interest in its affairs as a general matter of routine. Having the right to vote is important but not important enough: It is not as if my single vote or even that of the entire desi student population would decide the electoral fortunes of Messers Obama, McCain and Clinton. I am not in this country merely for an education or even to make money (important considerations as they surely are) but also because I am keenly interested in the American society.

Citing a disagreement between two other bloggers, Confused makes a case for taking an interest in the political processes of the place you live in. And of course, how could you not enjoy the drama that is the current American election tamasha; the TV Writers strike notwithstanding.
