Baradwaj feels Ajay Devgan has made a solid directorial debut with U Me Aur Hum.
U Me Aur Hum is as much the story of Ajay and Piya as it is of friendship and commitment and relationships and family, and Devgan draws out the latter aspects with the help of two couples that are friends of Ajay … It’s been a while since we’ve seen such a well-adjusted, close-knit bunch on screen, and it’s entirely believable that they’ve known one another long before the film began, and will continue to hang out long after it ends.
In a previous post, he writes about the advantages of having an online presence as a movie reviewer.
When you submit something for print, you’ve just about managed to crawl under the deadline wire, and the piece, when published, instantly becomes a frozen fossil, ready to be excavated and flung in your face at any given moment… Once the review goes up on my site, it’s endlessly fascinating to see how readers view it. It’s something to consider, that my subjective reading of a film (or a piece of music) is now available for my readers’ subjective reading (of my piece).

Movie buffs are constantly working on making comparisons and arriving at contrasts and similarities between movies and I have my two cents to contribute here for You, Me aur Hum. This Ajay Devgan directorial venture, reminiscent two classic movies; one is Khilona, and the other is Bassera.
In Khilona, Mumtaz takes cares of a deranged Sanjeev Kumar post shock, with utmost love and understanding; and this besides a similar repeat shocking scene brings back Sanjeev Kumar to his original self.
In Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, Rekha starred Bassera, Rakhee feigns insanity after recovery, but is detected by Poonam Dhillon, a parallel to which is seen in You, Me aur Hum; wherein Kajol feigns forgetfulness and is detected by Ajay Devgan.
The contrast from Bassera here is that, whilst Rakhee is let to reside in the asylum, Ajay gets his wife home and gives Kajol his unconditional love, care and understanding to help her lead a normal life. To that extent the movie conveys a positive message to the society that needs to be appreciated.
