Kerala State Film Awards 2008
Kerala State Film Awards were recently announced and Mohanlal won the best actor award (Paradesi) and Meera Jasmine, the best actress (Ore Kadal). Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s Naalu Pennungal was ignored, while a movie by a new comer won the best film award by the jury headed by the Assamese director Jahnu Barua. As always there are disagreements. Ram says that the award should have gone to Mammotty, while varnachitram disagrees and thinks Mohanlal deserved it.
The movie which beat Naalu Pennungal was Adayalangal by the debutant M.G.Sasi and since the movie was not released in theaters or shown in film festivals, very few got to see it. Blogger John Cheeran was one of them.
That I left the screening of Adayalangal without thinking that I wasted my three hours should have been enough to cheer up its director Sasi and the movie crew. How many recent Malayalam movies could produce similar feelings in the ticket-payer? Adayalangal may not be a great film. I still don’t know whether Adayalangal deserved to be the best film. But havng seen Paradesi and Nalu Pennungal, I’m not surprised that Adayalangal won critical acclaim
