Bird’s Nest Stadium for the Olympics
Tired of reading only protest news when we mention the Olympics? Well, let us look beyond the human rights violations of the host for a while and instead take a look at the impressive facilities they have erected for the Games.
Bird’s Nest, as it has been nicknamed, cost more than 500 million US Dollars and took fours years to build. It is called ‘Bird’s Nest’ due to the structural form of its roof. The interwoven structural elements of the facade produce a single surface, upon which further elements are arranged in a chaotic manner to blur the distinction between the primary structure and the secondary structure.
Vani Bahl takes the first peep into Beijing’s ‘Bird’s Nest’ Stadium which like its predecessors is yet another engineering marvel. Images and video included as well.
