Why no desi cheerleaders?
I thought not. And there’s the difference. In America, a parent would be on the sidelines cheering their girl on, proud as punch, since being a cheerleader is nothing more than innocent fun.
It’s about cultural context. Until India is comfortable with such things – and I invoke the daughter test again – the cheerleaders should be told to put it away. And pronto.
Peter Foster although now in New Zealand after his stint in India perfectly echoes my viewpoint on this whole IPL cheerleader charade. I’m not condoning the self-righteous protests by the cultural right here but merely questioning the cut-paste attitude for sports entertainment.

Actually, according to the Redskins’ website, they plan to recruit Indian cheerleaders too. And really, how much worse can cheerleading be than acting as an extra in a Mithun / Govinda movie in the 90s? Or even an item girl for that matter.
Should the IPL have cheerleaders?
