A Good Time To Buy Gold

The Green Family, expats in Singara Chennai write about the yearly rush to buy gold to increase good luck, Akshya Trithya. Even when I lived in Chennai, I was happy to participate in this festival by purchasing jewelry with the help of my friends who refused to leave the shop without getting me the best deal on the block!

The newspaper was full of ads to buy gold in the form of jewelry or coins. They believe that any form of gold brought into your home was sure to bring boundless luck or prosperity to your home.

No offence to any one’s sentiments, but this is nothing less than a pure marketing strategy! May it be Akshya Trithya or Dhanteras(hope i spelled it right) news papers are flooded with ads telling how auspicious the occasion is to buy gold.

U said it Tara
Say 5 years back, nobody spoke about Akshaya Tritiya.
GOD is the usual bait to lure customers to shops. And more if you say that buying something is auspicious, bring in luck etc..
Hats off the guy who first connected Gold purchase and Akshaya Tritiya. Smart chap!

This may be true. I am not sure the exact roots of this festival or for how long it’s been celebrated, however it’s a good argument and in today’s materialistic world, almost all holidays are tied up to this excuse!

The festival existed from a long time and was associated with purchase of ANY metal. So people would just buy steel utensils.
The focus on gold is a new invention. Last year when I was in Blr the promotion was about white gold and even gemstones. So this is clearly a scam to part the fools from their money.
