Gulmohar Petals

The Decayed Canine, inspired by the sight of Gulmohar petals, goes on a nostalgia trip that takes him through Delhi and Hyderabad/Secunderabad.

The best times in the Delhi summers are the ones when a red haze envelopes the usually lilac Delhi sky announcing the arrival of a dust storm, an aandhi. The loveliest image that I can think of when I try to recall those magical summers is that of an evening as red and lovely as any, with my Mausi plucking little red blossoms for us frolicking pairs of siblings to eat. I was still biting off that tinged petal, savouring its bitter-sour taste and laughing my head off at something I can’t see anymore in the picture.
