Doing Research

This is a very important part of your research: to read the literature in your immediate as well as allied fields. Failing a good understanding of the existing body of work, your research will never be able to transcend just the average. “Literature survey” is not just a requirement in your thesis that you need to tick off, it forms the whole basis of your work.

Whether you are a first-year PhD student or a post-doc, Niket’s pointers in his first post on Nonoscience on doing quality research are darn useful. It is not just what you do but how you do it that matters.
