I personally am confused if to Follow back all my followers as I think it will skew my follow/follower ratio and some software will call me a SPAM.
Leave that aside.

I feel the sample size for your survey is really small to come up with such conclusions.
Even though a cursory look at twitterosphere,may tell you that the results are more of less true, I think there are reasons beyond this.

I suggest you check twitter public timeline(half the tweets are not in English).
There are teenagers who are active, I am sure there tweet on things which may sound mundane to a you or me.

Thats my 5 paisa.
