Abhi at Sepia Mutiny posted a thought-provoking photo of hands holding Obama’s prized lucky charms. Amongst them is a small Hanumanji murthi. I am of course, also curious how this murthi got in the hands of Obama and what attracted to keep this as a lucky charm! Suppose Obama wins and becomes the next president… will then Hanumanji enter the White House, also??
The Democratic nominee for President carries Hanuman with him for good luck (although to beat McCain, who carries a penny, he might need to upgrade to this Hanuman, or else use this stick that he got earlier this week).

I remember that Obama mentions Hanuman while talking about life in Indonesia in his book, Dreams from my Father . My guess is that this talisman is more indicative of his Indonesian upbringing than of any Hindu influence.

Interesting.. maybe I’ll pick up that book someday and take a look at it!
