The Dark Knight

The new Batman movie, The Dark Knight, is breaking all kinds of box-office records. It made $67.85 million when it opened on friday and an estimated $158.4 million over the weekend. Falstaff contends that this is not the new Batman film as much as the new Joker film, and I have to agree. Heath ledger has done a superb job - he is absolutely unrecognizable as the joker… it’s hard to believe this is the same guy who played the taciturn Ennis Del MAr in Brokeback Mountain!

Because Heath Ledger’s Joker isn’t just far and away the darkest villain ever to appear in a Batman film, he is the scariest, most bruisingly magnificent vision of pure evil to appear on screen since Hannibal Lecter. Sadistic, psychopathic and machiavellan, Ledger’s Joker is chaos brought to life, a whirlwind of destruction that whirls through the film leaving human debris in its wake…
