Times Of India Steals From Blogger

In yet another case of content theft from a blogger, Twilight Fairy finds a photograph from her Flickr stream appearing in a Times of India supplement. Needless to say, the editorial team is unimpressed and quite unapologetic about her case.

I was told that it is common practice to “use” free images from the net! Flabbergasted at the audacity of this all, I clearly asked whether TOI staff was blind or illiterate to not be able to make out the clearly written statement on my flickr stream and my copyright license, both of which stated that my images can NOT be used without my explicit permission – ALL rights reserved.

I’m thinking that this brings a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘organized crime’. Are there any cyber-lawyers who can protect bloggers from content theft from the organized media?

Seems that It is a common practice these days.
My flicker photo of famous ghazal singer
Penaz Masani was lifted without my permission by Hindi Daily DAINIK JAGRAN,
And printed in a news item about Penaz.
some staffer searched the net and just used it for publication.
Yes- i agree there should be some cyber law agency to address this issue.

And did you take permission from Penaz Masani to publish her picture on the net publicly?

I agree, This is nowdays happening a lot. There should be some laws that protect the bloggers from content theft! Its very frustrating to find your material stolen blatantly by people.

Ya surely such rights are protected under Indian Copyrights Act 1957, if you can prove the copyrights belongs to you, and such work has been used by some other person without your permission.

You can serve them with a Legal Notice and ask for removal of copyrighted material and even ask for compensation.

With the advent of Internet, such matters are very common these days, we have been dealing with such matters on regular basis. You can contact our firm in case of any assisitance.
