Nikhil, when you say that it was “misquoted”, you ought to substantiate that. When Prakash Karat himself acknowledges the mis-appropriatednss of the CM’s remark, would you deny the validity of the remark? M.Mukundan wasn’t too far when he called the CM an “outdated” saint. The point is, the CM now ought to “retire” at 85 than sit at the helms of a state where life and development stands at an eliotian state of decay except for the fostering of terrorist camps.

Uma,
I repeat,he was quoted out of context.
The media created a mess out of the whole issue,by highlighting on the word “dog” which in fact was in reply to a pertinent question.

VS should not have made such a remark, which was unbecoming of the office he holds. But media just messed it up.

When someone says

“America, which is trying to destroy the integrity of the nation also had a role in this conspiracy.”

the media is actually doing a favor by misquoting.

I think Nikil is correct here. Media has blown this whole stuff out. More over he was using a slang and the translation given for that slang was totally wrong. See this.

We need to stop picking on this disillusioned silly old man. Clearly, he doesn’t understand that he didn’t make his comments to the print media, and that what he said to Times Now was reproduced verbatim on paper.

It’s not his fault he’s senile. Leave him be.

Brijesh, I don’t see anything wrong in the translation given for the slang. The derogatory usage is used in cheap slimy flicks in the media to project a pseudo macho image or in uncouth give and takes and NEVER in civilized conversation whatever the circumstances may be. Hence, whether it was employed here as a response to the father’s similarly styled statement or not is irrelevant. That it was extremely unbecoming of a person who occupies THE chair of Kerala is what’s pertinent.

I agree RJ. But “leaving him be” would really be no solution to the polity. Nor is there any individual anywhere in sight in any party who shows a dynamism or genius required of such a position. That’s the worst. Unless the cream of Kerala begins to participate in active politics, the electorate have to suffer worse embarrassments and we’ll be totally responsible for it too.

Anyway, the CM was more than hasty to show some amount of dignity and sympathy where the Irikkur disaster was concerned. It’s never too late to learn, I guess.

I am new to DesiPundit and unlike RJ I’d like to thank Nikhil for putting up the post. I haven’t found any online platform where there’s any constructive discussion in English regarding issues concerning Kerala and this was a pleasant surprise.

I have to agree with RJ here. Desipunsit is a showcase of best in class Indian writing. It is definitely not a platform for constructive discussion in English regarding issues concerning Kerala. That should be confined to said blog. While most people here do link good posts, Nikhil has definitely lowered the standards by sometimes posting what I feel are his personal friends blogs. I feel Patrix should monitor links being posted here from time to time and set up standards for posting links here.
