a: Reg. "I often wonder ,BR, how you manage to sit through a film like blue..." Er, years and years of pratice? :-)

Mrikish: We wrote the initial draft in Tanglish -- i.e when the Tamil lines came to us readily, we put them down in Tamil, and when the idea came in English, we put it down in English. (The important thing at first is not to break the flow.) Then the ironing out began -- translating the remainder to either Tamil or a Tamil idiom. But K2K is very middle-class Madras, very much like the way we speak in real life, switching easily between Tamil and English -- so it wasn't difficult at all. I wouldn't dare attempt writing dialogues for a rural subject, say, or even something like Pudhupettai.

I suppose films are partly a reflection of a sociological malaise creeping into the city..the culture of "wannabe"ness, celebration of mediocrity(consider a news article that talks of kareena being in a "dilemma\crisis "whether to wear black or red" and a general regard for style over substance.Nostalgia maybe, but the young people I work with it today dont seem to be excited about anything. As a teacher, I find this often disheartening...I still get excited about icecream in a cone dribbling down my fingers!!

I often wonder ,BR, how you manage to sit through a film like blue and find something about it..a true mark of a karma yogi?!

The other day, a whole group of us spanning generations watched seven samurai by kurasawa and had a blast..there is hope still..!!

and if not there is always icecream!

I think Harish is referring to the Shekar Kammula series. Anand, Godavari etc. which I feel broke a lot of thumb rules of Telugu cinema.

@Lakshman , i am even more forgiving , i don't mind the third, fourth, fifth chances even but some of these directors just never learn , they continue to churn out these completely improbable duds. And then get interviewed on some TV Channel by a fawning interviewer asking about their favorite color. Double whammy, can't escape them.

Its called catering to the Lowest Common Denominator i guess.
