Wanted – Guest Contributors on DesiPundit

Ever wanted to link your favorite posts on DesiPundit? Well, here’s your chance. We are looking for guest contributors for DesiPundit for a period of one month starting immediately. Most of our regular contributors are on vacation and we would like to keep wheels of DesiPundit turning through this holiday season. Following a favorable response from readers and our team over this month, we may invite a couple of guest contributors to continue as regular full-time contributors.

Sounds interesting? Details after the jump:

Moving Day Over

Apologies for the lull in posting links. We were in the midst of moving our servers. Things seem to be chugging along fine so we’re back again. If you think something’s seems amiss, you can blame the tubes.

Thousand-plus blogs linked and counting

DesiPundit has linked to more than a thousand blogs now. You can check out the entire list of blogs including the number of times we have linked to each blog (I know, some are internal links). Note that these statistics are only for periods between Aug’06 – Oct’06 and March’07 onwards (so numbers may be higher in reality). Thanks to Thejo for keeping this tool running.

What does this imply? Honestly, nothing. Just some fun number work although I had written up a short analysis before. Feel free to share your thoughts, if any.

Winner – Tagline Contest

A Little Wit. A Little Wisdom. Lots of India.

…is the new DesiPundit tagline. Congrats to Sidin for coming up with this gem of a tag line that encapsulates the spirit of DesiPundit. Simple, pithy, and unique. The response for the tagline contest was overwhelming and a ton of thanks to several readers who dropped in excellent suggestions.

Some of the honorable mentions (in order of appearance) were:

A New Tagline for DesiPundit

Update: Thanks for the fantastic response. Comments are now closed. The result will be declared on Monday.

We launched a couple of years back with the aim of showcasing the best of the Indian blogosphere and thus our tag line was simple, plain, and direct. But along the way, DesiPundit has evolved and may not have always lived up to the tag line given the subjective nature of blog quality. Yet DesiPundit continues to be popular and most readers seem to like the choice of our contributors. So in the spirit of change, we are calling for entries for a new DesiPundit tagline.

Back Online

Nope, neither did we forget to pay our bills nor were we brought down by “the foreign hand.” It was the good’ ol hosting curse that DesiPundit has come to live with. Our hosting providers at MidPhase observed that we were consuming more mySQL resources than we should be so they promptly suspended our account (last time, it was bandwidth). I have no idea why didn’t they inform us and let us fix the issue instead. It seems to be the standard procedure among hosting providers – yank the site and then talk. Gah!
Anyway, after much frustration and countless emails, we have upgraded to a Virtual Private Server (VPS) which although costs (a lot) more promises to be more reliable. Or at least until the next outage. So without more ranting, I’ll let our contributors get back to our regular posting.

DesiPundit on Facebook

Hordes of desis are moving to Facebook so it is natural that DesiPundit ought to have a presence there. Join the DesiPundit group. However, you have to be a member of the India ‘network’ first.

Feel free to use the group for anything related to desi blogging. Only 25 members so far and not much happening so go ahead, stir things up a little.

Update: The group is now associated with a Global Network so anyone can join. Existing members may have to rejoin since the group was recreated.
