We have been receiving so many hat tips lately that we think it is the right time to put a hat tip policy in place. We love hearing from you and trust me, we would love to publish all the tips we get. We have been gladly accepting self-nominated posts too, in the spirit of Blog Mela.
A quick reminder, we link ONLY to blog posts and not to news columns, news snippets, etc. If you think we should feature a breaking story, blog about it quickly or get a pundit blogger to do it, and if we find that interesting we will link to it.
First of all, we have a particular fascination for blog posts that feature some original writing. Do not link or cite any news article and add a one-liner, “I agree” and expect it to be featured here. Take a stand, fisk the article, point out flaws in the author’s argument, or mention personal anecdotes or incidents that you were reminded of when you read it; we love those kinds. It can be a long rant or couple of insightful observations, nothing rocks like some personal touches to a blog post. We love the referring “Linking Park” posts too but we would rather link to the original post rather than link to you, right?
Do not send pointers to every post you write. Admittedly, you might be the best blogger around and every post you write might be worth featuring. But you must understand that we love variety and do not want to be painted as patronizing specific bloggers. Also, we hate sending reject-tip email so instead we ignore them. More you inundate us with tips that we think shouldn’t feature, more we will ignore. Try restricting your self-nominated tips to 1-2 a week. Don’t even think of colluding with a fellow blogger and indulge in “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours”. We can spot trends and patterns quite well plus that is pretty desperate.
You get brownie points for pointing us toward a blog hitherto unpublished on DesiPundit. Don’t just rely on us to scour the blogosphere; you might be reading a whole lot of blogs than we ever can. Share the extent of your reach.
Please do not forget to mention your blog or website in the contact form. That way, we get to credit you with the find. Even if you don’t have one, don’t forget to mention your name so at least we can use that.
There can be several hat tips to popular or interesting posts and so we will credit the first email that reaches our inbox so that there is no cat fight later on. Don’t fret if you see a post that you emailed us about but received no credit; we might have noticed if before you pointed us to it. Our Bloglines subscription list rocks too.
You might have observed that we might be linking to specific blogs more than others. Don’t worry, they aren’t greasing our palms. In fact, it may just mean that they write well or we love their take on issues. Learn from them, and you might just be on that list too.
We’ll keep updating this page if we have more issues to clarify but don’t worry, we love you all. Keep sending those tips. Even if they don’t feature on DesiPundit, at least one person is definitely reading them.
